Connecting Independent Networks

an office network

We can allow information to travel between networks without having to connect them directly together. This is done by inserting a 'sorting office' or Router, into each network. The Router looks at the destination for information going through the network to determine if it is inside it's own network, or if that information needs to go to a different network.

If the information is destined for a different network, the Router will send that information to another Router to be handled, just like the Post Office hands off mail with a different Zip Code.
