Dial-up Modems

Compared to the Broadband options out there, dial-up modems are very slow. However, in some situations, they may be the only option available. This is beginning to change, as Broadband begins to reach more and more of the isolated locations.

A Dial-up modem converts the data that you are sending into sounds that can be sent over a regular phone line.
Modems generally create a transparent link between two points. With this in mind, your computer will appear to be directly connected to the network at the other end of the phone line. In most cases, this will be the network of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
