Connecting Networks

an office network

We can connect the networks together, but we have a few problems.

  • Who is in charge? Administrator of the network on the right, or the left?
  • Some computers have the same name, how do we tell them apart?
  • If I send something to the printer, where will it come out?

We could go through and rename the computers and printers so that everything has a unique name, However, this does not resolve the question of who is in charge of the overall network. Let's say that one of these networks in in Milwaukee, and the other is in Madison. Everytime I want to make a change in Milwaukee, I would have to coordinate with Madison.

What happens when we connect 10 networks together? 100 networks? 1000 networks?
