The Internet

The Internet is the inconnection of millions of smaller networks to form one GIANT network. Each of these networks is indepenently controlled, and connects via its own router. The Router must be assigned a number by a central authority (ICANN). This number works like the Zip Code from the post office example. Other than that number, what is done inside of each network is entirely up to whomever owns that network.
